Kids Create at the Top of State Street: A Children’s Art & Activity Series
Learn to Knit & Make Kindness Monsters with Fibre Forward
As part of Downtown Madison’s “Summer in YOUR City,” Madison BID partnered with local organizations, like Fibre Forward, to provide an afternoon of fun for children and families through themed art and learning projects.
On Friday, August 16th, children and families were given Let’s Knit Kits and made Kindness Pommonsters, together with Fibre Forward instruction and all resources provided, at no cost. Together, we made little Kindness Pommonsters to take away and give to someone special. On Friday, August 30th, children and families were given Let’s Knit Kits to learn to knit!
We chose pommonsters because they’re a wonderful way to let a friend or family member know you’re thinking of them. When we made the pommonsters, we asked the children what they were making, why, and who they wanted to give them to. By giving someone a little monster, or spreading some joy to someone you don’t know, we suggested they could say something like, “Hey, this cute little thing made me smile, and I thought it might make you smile, too.”
We couldn’t agree more with the pattern designer, Rachel, when she says, “I don’t think anyone ever wished they hadn’t spent so much time on being kind.”
The Knit Kindness Monster pattern is also available here as a free download.
